Our Boats

Choptank Riverboats

The Choptank Riverboat Company started in 1997 with the “Dorothy & Megan”, named for the owner’s, Dave Nickerson’s Mother (Dorothy) and Daughter (Megan).

"The Choptank River Queen" was purchased and placed into use in 2002.


They are approximately 80 feet over all in length (63.5 feet legal length), 24 feet width, and draws about 4 feet of water. They are reproductions of the late 1800's steamboats that traveled the Mississippi and western rivers. 


They are true stern wheelers, powered by diesel engines, The smoke stacks are the exhaust for the engines.  Paddles are driven by hydraulics. The riverboats average a speed of 6 knots. 


Both Riverboats were built by Freeport Shipbuilding in Freeport, Florida.   Our boats are USCG inspected - "T" Boat with certificates of inspection to carry a maximum of 149 passengers. 

The boats are the same layout on the main decks, offering seating for 80 guests, a full bar, and restrooms.  The mains decks are climate controlled. The upper decks offer a covered area with windows that allow an open deck feeling, tables settings or seats can be provided. 


The Choptank Riverboats offer public cruises on the Choptank River out of Suicide Bridge Restaurant and can do private trips.   

Sight Seeing cruises offer a 90 minute excursion.

While no food is provided, Sodas, Tea, coffee, and a full cash bar. 

Lunch Cruises are 2 hours.

Lunch is crab cakes & fried chicken with vegetables, potatoes and dessert.

Dinner Cruises are 3 hours and offer a choice menu of

1) Crab Cake and Prime Rib or 

 2) Crab Cake & Lemon Chicken

served with a garden salad, vegetables, potatoes, and dessert.

Crab Feast Cruises are also 3 hours. 

Your Crab Feast starts with  Maryland crab soup coleslaw and local corn on the cob, then you are served fried chicken and fried clam strips, then the local Maryland Crabs that are for your enjoyment.

The Choptank River is part of the water shed area of the Chesapeake Bay.  Our boats travel from Cabin Creek to Cambridge, Maryland.
